Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 53

وَإِذْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْفُرْقَانَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ ﴿53﴾
And (remember) when We gave Mûsâ (Moses) the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah)] and the criterion (of right and wrong) so that you may be guided aright."
وَإِذْ wa-idh And when
ءَاتَيْنَا ātaynā We gave
مُوسَى mūsā Musa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book
وَٱلْفُرْقَانَ wal-fur'qāna and the Criterion
لَعَلَّكُمْ laʿallakum perhaps you
تَهْتَدُونَ tahtadūna (would be) guided

53. 1. This is also an incident after crossing the Red Sea (Ibn Kathir). It is possible that the book, that is, the Torah, has also been referred to as Furqan, because every heavenly book is one that clarifies truth and falsehood, or miracles have been called Furqan, as miracles also play an important role in distinguishing between truth and falsehood.
