سُوْرَةُ البَقَرَةِ
Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 28
كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَٰتًا فَأَحْيَـٰكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ﴿28﴾

How can you disbelieve in Allâh? seeing that you were dead and He gave you life. Then He will give you death, then again will bring you to life (on the Day of Resurrection) and then unto Him you will return (See V.40:11)

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

28. 1. In the verse, there is mention of two deaths and two lives. The first death refers to non-existence (that is, not being), and the first life is from coming out of the mother's womb until encountering death. Then death will come, then the life of the Hereafter will be the second life, which the disbelievers and deniers of the Resurrection reject. Some scholars are of the opinion that the life of the grave (as it is) is included in worldly life (Fath al-Qadeer). The correct view is that the life of Barzakh is the prelude and introduction to the life of the Hereafter, therefore it is related to the life of the Hereafter.
