Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
269. 1. According to some, ḥikmah means intellect and understanding, knowledge, and according to others, sound judgment, knowledge and understanding of the abrogating and abrogated verses of the Qur'an, power of decision, and according to some, it is only the knowledge and understanding of the Sunnah or the Book and Sunnah, or all these meanings can be included in its application. In a hadith of the Sahihayn and others, it is stated that emulation is permissible towards two persons: one is the person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the way of truth, the other is the one whom Allah has given ḥikmah, by which he judges and teaches it to the people. (Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al-‘Ilm, Bab al-Ightibat fi al-‘Ilm wa al-Ḥikmah. Muslim, Kitab Salat al-Musafirin, Bab Fadl man yaqūm bil-Qur’an wa yu‘allimuhu...)
