سُوْرَةُ البَقَرَةِ
Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 24
فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوا۟ وَلَن تَفْعَلُوا۟ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلْحِجَارَةُ ۖ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿24﴾

But if you do it not, and you can never do it, then fear the Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. 1. This is another clear proof of the truthfulness of the Noble Quran: all disbelievers, both Arab and non-Arab, were challenged, but to this day they have been unable to respond to it, and certainly will remain unable until the Day of Judgment.
2. By "stone" is meant, according to Ibn Abbas, the filthy stones, and according to some scholars, those stone idols will also be the fuel of Hell which people used to worship in the world, as is also mentioned in the Noble Quran. (اِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ ۭ اَنْتُمْ لَهَا وٰرِدُوْنَ) 21:98 You and those whom you worship will be the fuel of Hell.
3. From this, firstly, it is understood that Hell was originally prepared for the disbelievers and polytheists, and secondly, it is known that Paradise and Hell exist and their existence is established even at this time; this is the belief of the early generations of the Ummah. These are not metaphorical things, as some modernists and deniers of hadith try to make people believe.
