Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Those who take an oath not to have sexual relation with their wives must wait for four months, then if they return (change their idea in this period), verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
226. 1. That is, if a husband swears an oath that he will not have relations with his wife for one month or two months, then after the completion of the oath period he resumes relations, there is no expiation. However, if he resumes relations before the completion of the period, he will have to pay the expiation for the oath. And if he swears for a period longer than four months or swears without specifying a period, then in this verse a period has been fixed for such people that after four months have passed, he must either resume relations with his wife or divorce her. In the first case, he will have to pay the expiation for the oath. If he does not choose either of the two options, then the court will compel him to choose one of the two options: either resume relations or divorce, so that the woman is not wronged. (Ibn Kathir)
