Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 225

لَّا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِٱللَّغْوِ فِىٓ أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن يُؤَاخِذُكُم بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٌ ﴿225﴾
Allâh will not call you to account for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will call you to account for that which your hearts have earned. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Forbearing.
لَّا Not
يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ yuākhidhukumu will take you to task
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
بِٱللَّغْوِ bil-laghwi for (what is) unintentional
فِىٓ in
أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْ aymānikum your oaths
وَلَـٰكِن walākin [and] but
يُؤَاخِذُكُم yuākhidhukum He takes you to task
بِمَا bimā for what
كَسَبَتْ kasabat (have) earned
قُلُوبُكُمْ ۗ qulūbukum your hearts
وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah
غَفُورٌ ghafūrun (is) Oft-Forgiving
حَلِيمٌۭ ḥalīmun Most Forbearing

225. 1. That is, those which are unintentional and habitual; however, actually swearing a false oath is a major sin.
