Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. 183. 1. Ṣiyām, ṣawm (fasting) is a verbal noun whose Shar‘i meaning is to abstain from eating, drinking, and intercourse with one's wife from true dawn until sunset for the sake of Allah’s pleasure. Since this act of worship is very important for the purification and cleansing of the soul, it was also made obligatory upon the nations before you. Its greatest objective is the attainment of taqwā. And taqwā plays a fundamental role in refining a person’s morals and character.
