Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 167

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ لَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَتَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُمْ كَمَا تَبَرَّءُوا۟ مِنَّا ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُرِيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ حَسَرَٰتٍ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَمَا هُم بِخَـٰرِجِينَ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ ﴿167﴾
And those who followed will say: "If only we had one more chance to return (to the worldly life), we would disown (declare ourselves as innocent from) them as they have disowned (declared themselves as innocent from) us." Thus Allâh will show them their deeds as regrets for them. And they will never get out of the Fire.
وَقَالَ waqāla And said
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ittabaʿū followed
لَوْ law (Only) if
أَنَّ anna [that]
لَنَا lanā for us
كَرَّةًۭ karratan a return
فَنَتَبَرَّأَ fanatabarra-a then we will disown
مِنْهُمْ min'hum [from] them
كَمَا kamā as
تَبَرَّءُوا۟ tabarraū they disown
مِنَّا ۗ minnā [from] us
كَذَٰلِكَ kadhālika Thus
يُرِيهِمُ yurīhimu will show them
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ aʿmālahum their deeds
حَسَرَٰتٍ ḥasarātin (as) regrets
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ ʿalayhim for them
وَمَا wamā And not
هُم hum they
بِخَـٰرِجِينَ bikhārijīna will come out
مِنَ mina from
ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri the Fire

1. In the Hereafter, the polytheists will regret the helplessness and disloyalty of their spiritual leaders and shrine custodians, but this regret will be of no benefit to them there. They will say, "If only we had repented from polytheism in the world."
