Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
153. 1. A human being has only two states: comfort and ease (blessing) or hardship and distress. In blessings, there is the exhortation to give thanks to Allah, and in hardship, the emphasis is on patience and seeking help from Allah. In the hadith, it is stated: The affair of the believer is indeed amazing; if happiness reaches him, he gives thanks to Allah, and if hardship befalls him, he is patient. Both states are good for him. (Sahih Muslim) There are two types of patience: patience in refraining from evil deeds and avoiding them, and patience in sacrificing pleasures and bearing the loss of temporary benefits. The second is to endure with patience and restraint the difficulties and hardships that come in fulfilling the commands of Allah. Some people have expressed it in this way: One should act upon the things beloved to Allah, no matter how burdensome they are on the self and body, and one should avoid what Allah dislikes, even if desires and pleasures strongly pull one towards them. (Ibn Kathir)
