And if you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Qur’ân), then you would have against Allâh neither any Walî (protector or guardian) nor any helper.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

120. 1 That is, adopt Judaism or Christianity.
120. 2 Which is now in the form of Islam, to which the Noble Prophet ﷺ is inviting, not the altered Judaism and Christianity.
120. 3 This is a warning that even after knowledge has come, if you follow them merely to please those who are themselves misguided, then you will have no helper. In fact, this is teaching the Ummah of Muhammad that for the sake of pleasing the people of innovation and the misguided, they too should not do such acts, nor commit interference and undue involvement in the religion.
