سُوْرَةُ البَقَرَةِ
Surah Al-Baqara (2) — Ayah 101
وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ كِتَـٰبَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿101﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
And when there came to them a Messenger from Allâh (i.e. Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allâh behind their backs as if they did not know!

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

11. 1 Addressing the Prophet ﷺ, Allah Almighty is saying that We have granted you ﷺ many clear signs, upon seeing which even the Jews should have believed. Moreover, in their own book, the Torah, there is mention of your ﷺ qualities and a covenant to believe in you ﷺ, but when have they ever cared about any covenant before, that they would care about this one? Breaking covenants has always been the habit of their group. To the extent that they threw behind their backs the Book of Allah Almighty as if they do not even know it.
