Surah Maryam (19) — Ayah 75

قُلْ مَن كَانَ فِى ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مَدًّا ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا وَأَضْعَفُ جُندًا ﴿75﴾
Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) whoever is in error, the Most Gracious (Allâh) will extend (the rope) to him, until, when they see that which they were promised, either the torment or the Hour, they will come to know who is worst in position, and who is weaker in forces. [This is the answer to the question in Verse No.19:73]
قُلْ qul Say
مَن man Whoever
كَانَ kāna is
فِى in
ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِ l-ḍalālati [the] error
فَلْيَمْدُدْ falyamdud then surely will extend
لَهُ lahu for him
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ l-raḥmānu the Most Gracious
مَدًّا ۚ maddan an extension
حَتَّىٰٓ ḥattā until
إِذَا idhā when
رَأَوْا۟ ra-aw they see
مَا what
يُوعَدُونَ yūʿadūna they were promised
إِمَّا immā either
ٱلْعَذَابَ l-ʿadhāba the punishment
وَإِمَّا wa-immā or
ٱلسَّاعَةَ l-sāʿata the Hour
فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ fasayaʿlamūna then they will know
مَنْ man who
هُوَ huwa [he]
شَرٌّۭ sharrun (is) worst
مَّكَانًۭا makānan (in) position
وَأَضْعَفُ wa-aḍʿafu and weaker
جُندًۭا jundan (in) forces

75. 1. Besides, these things are also given to the misguided and disbelievers as a respite, so this is not a criterion. The real distinction between good and bad will be known when the period of action comes to an end and Allah's punishment overtakes them or the Day of Resurrection is established. But knowledge at that time will be of no benefit, because there will be no way for rectification or compensation there.
