Mary · Meccan · Juz 16 · Page 309

Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salât (the prayers) [i.e. made their Salât (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times] and have followed lusts. So they will be thrown in Hell.
۞ فَخَلَفَ fakhalafa Then succeeded
مِنۢ min after them
بَعْدِهِمْ baʿdihim after them
خَلْفٌ khalfun successors
أَضَاعُوا۟ aḍāʿū who neglected

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

59. 1. After mentioning the blessed servants of Allah, now those people are being mentioned who, on the contrary, are heedless of and turn away from Allah's commands. By neglecting prayer is meant either completely abandoning prayer, which is disbelief, or wasting its appointed times, that is, not performing prayer at its prescribed time, but praying whenever one wishes, or combining prayers without a valid excuse—sometimes two, sometimes four, sometimes one, and sometimes all five prayers together. All these are forms of neglecting prayer, and whoever is guilty of this is committing a grave sin and may be deserving of the warning mentioned in the verse. The meaning of "غیا" is destruction, an evil end, or it is the name of a valley in Hell.
