Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

57. 1. Hazrat Idris (علیہ السلام) is said to be the first prophet after Hazrat Adam (علیہ السلام), and the grandfather of Hazrat Nuh (علیہ السلام) or his father’s grandfather. He was the first to sew clothes. What is meant by the elevation of rank? Some commentators have understood its meaning as رُفِعَ اِلَی السَّمَآء, that like Hazrat Isa (علیہ السلام), he too was raised to the heavens, but the words of the Quran are not clear for this meaning, nor has this been stated in any Sahih hadith. However, in Israelite traditions, there is mention of his being raised to the heavens, which is not sufficient to establish this meaning. Therefore, the more correct view seems to be that it refers to the elevation of rank that was granted to him by bestowing prophethood. And Allah knows best.
