Surah Maryam (19) — Ayah 35

مَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ مِن وَلَدٍ ۖ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥٓ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ ﴿35﴾
It befits not (the Majesty of) Allâh that He should beget a son [this refers to the slander of Christians against Allâh, by saying that ‘Îsâ (Jesus) is the son of Allâh]. Glorified (and Exalted) be He (above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it: "Be!" - and it is.
مَا Not
كَانَ kāna (it) is
لِلَّهِ lillahi for Allah
أَن an that
يَتَّخِذَ yattakhidha He should take
مِن min any son
وَلَدٍۢ ۖ waladin any son
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥٓ ۚ sub'ḥānahu Glory be to Him
إِذَا idhā When
قَضَىٰٓ qaḍā He decrees
أَمْرًۭا amran a matter
فَإِنَّمَا fa-innamā then only
يَقُولُ yaqūlu He says
لَهُۥ lahu to it
كُن kun Be
فَيَكُونُ fayakūnu and it is

35. 1. The Allah who possesses such majesty and power, why would He need offspring? And similarly, for Him to create without a father—what difficulty is there in that? Thus, those who attribute offspring to Allah or deny the miraculous birth of ‘Isa (عليه السلام), in reality, are denying Allah’s power and might.
