إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ نِدَآءً خَفِيًّا ﴿3﴾
When he called out his Lord (Allâh) a call in secret.

3. 1. He made a secret supplication because, firstly, this is more beloved to Allah as it contains more humility, turning to Allah, and submissiveness. Secondly, so that people would not consider him foolish, thinking that this old man is now asking for a child in his old age when all apparent possibilities for having children have ended.
