وَبَرًّۢا بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَكُن جَبَّارًا عَصِيًّا ﴿14﴾
And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither arrogant nor disobedient (to Allâh or to his parents).
وَبَرًّۢا wabarran And dutiful
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ biwālidayhi to his parents
وَلَمْ walam and not
يَكُن yakun he was
جَبَّارًا jabbāran a tyrant
عَصِيًّۭا ʿaṣiyyan disobedient

14. 1. That is, he was not disobedient to his parents or to his Lord. This means that if Allah Almighty creates in someone's heart the feeling of compassion and love for parents, and the motivation to obey, serve, and treat them well, then this is His special grace and favor. And the opposite feeling or attitude is the result of being deprived of Allah Almighty's special grace.
