Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

59. 1. By this are meant the peoples of ‘Ad, Thamud, and the peoples of Prophet Shu‘ayb ؑ and Prophet Lut ؑ, etc., who were near the people of Hijaz and along their routes. Although they too were destroyed because of their oppression, they were given full opportunity before their destruction. And when it became clear that their oppression and rebellion had reached such a level where the paths of guidance were completely blocked and there was no hope left for goodness and virtue from them, then their period of respite ended and the time of destruction began. Then they were wiped out like an error in writing, or made a lesson for the people of the world. In fact, this is being explained to the people of Makkah that you are denying our last Prophet and the noblest of the messengers, Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Do not think that because you are being given respite, it means there is no one to call you to account. Rather, this respite is the Sunnah of Allah, which He grants to every individual, group, and nation until an appointed time. When this period ends and you do not desist from your disbelief and stubbornness, then your fate will be no different from that of the nations before you.
