Surah Al-Kahf (18) — Ayah 46

ٱلْمَالُ وَٱلْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا ﴿46﴾
Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds, that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope.
ٱلْمَالُ al-mālu The wealth
وَٱلْبَنُونَ wal-banūna and children
زِينَةُ zīnatu (are) adornment
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ l-ḥayati (of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ l-dun'yā (of) the world
وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ wal-bāqiyātu But the enduring
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ l-ṣāliḥātu good deeds
خَيْرٌ khayrun (are) better
عِندَ ʿinda near
رَبِّكَ rabbika your Lord
ثَوَابًۭا thawāban (for) reward
وَخَيْرٌ wakhayrun and better
أَمَلًۭا amalan (for) hope

46. 1. In this, for the people of faith and those who take pride in worldly possessions, tribes, families, and children, Allah Almighty has said: these things are merely temporary adornments of this fleeting world. In the Hereafter, these things will be of no benefit. That is why it is further stated that the deeds which will be of use in the Hereafter are those that are everlasting.

46. 2. What are the "Baqiyat Salihat" (everlasting good deeds), or which ones are they? Some have considered it to be prayer, some have considered it to be praise, glorification, magnification, and declaration of the oneness of Allah, and some have considered it to be all good deeds. But the correct view is that this is general and includes all good deeds. All obligatory acts, necessary acts, Sunnah, and voluntary acts are included in Baqiyat Salihat. In fact, even refraining from evil deeds is a righteous act, for which there is hope for reward from Allah.
