Surah An-Nahl (16) — Ayah 126

وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا۟ بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَئِن صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَ ﴿126﴾
And if you punish (your enemy, O you believers in the Oneness of Allâh), then punish them with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you endure patiently, verily, it is better for As-Sâbirûn (the patient).
وَإِنْ wa-in And if
عَاقَبْتُمْ ʿāqabtum you retaliate
فَعَاقِبُوا۟ faʿāqibū then retaliate
بِمِثْلِ bimith'li with the like
مَا of what
عُوقِبْتُم ʿūqib'tum you were afflicted
بِهِۦ ۖ bihi with [it]
وَلَئِن wala-in But if
صَبَرْتُمْ ṣabartum you are patient
لَهُوَ lahuwa surely (it) is
خَيْرٌۭ khayrun better
لِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَ lilṣṣābirīna for those who are patient

126. 1. Although permission to take retribution is given in this, provided that one does not exceed the limits, otherwise he himself will become an oppressor, nevertheless forgiving and adopting patience has been declared better.
