Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

87. 1. What is meant by Sab‘ al-Mathani? There is a difference of opinion among the commentators regarding this. The correct view is that it refers to Surah al-Fatihah. These are seven verses and are recited repeatedly in every prayer. (مثانی کے معنی بار بار دہرانے کے کیئے گئے ہیں (حدیث میں بھی اس کی تائید ہوتی ہے۔ چناچہ ایک حدیث میں رسول اللہ نے فرمایا (اَ لْحَمْدُ لِلّٰہِ رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ) (The meaning of Mathani is 'that which is repeated,' and this is supported by Hadith.) For instance, in a hadith, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "'(Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin)' is the Sab' al-Mathani and the Great Qur’an which I have been given." (Sahih Bukhari) In another hadith, it is said: (أم القرآن هي السبع المثاني والقرآن العظيم) "Umm al-Qur’an is the Sab‘ al-Mathani and the Great Qur’an." Surah al-Fatihah is a part of the Qur’an, therefore the mention of the Great Qur’an is also included along with it.
