Verily, by your life (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly.
لَعَمْرُكَ laʿamruka By your life
إِنَّهُمْ innahum indeed, they
لَفِى lafī were in
سَكْرَتِهِمْ sakratihim their intoxication

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

72. 1 Allah, addressing the Prophet, swears by his life, which highlights your honor and virtue. However, for anyone else, it is not permissible to swear by anyone other than Allah. Allah is the Absolute Ruler; He can swear by whomever He wills—who is there to question Him? Allah says that just as a person’s intellect is impaired by the intoxication of wine, in the same way, they were so lost in their own arrogance and misguidance that even the most reasonable words of Prophet Lut (عليه السلام) did not make sense to them.
