وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ ﴿66﴾
And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning.
وَقَضَيْنَآ waqaḍaynā And We conveyed
إِلَيْهِ ilayhi to him
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika [that]
ٱلْأَمْرَ l-amra the matter
أَنَّ anna that
دَابِرَ dābira (the) root
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ hāulāi (of) these
مَقْطُوعٌۭ maqṭūʿun would be cut off
مُّصْبِحِينَ muṣ'biḥīna (by) early morning

66. 1. That is, Lut (AS) was informed through revelation of this decision that by morning the roots of these people would be cut off, or by دابِرَ is meant the last person who would remain; it is said that he too would be destroyed by morning.
