Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

53. 1 If this is attributed to Prophet Yusuf (علیہ السلام), then it is an expression of humility, otherwise it is clear that his chastity had been established in every way. And if this is the statement of the Aziz of Egypt (as is the opinion of Imam Ibn Kathir), then it is based on reality because she admitted her sin and acknowledged his attempt to entice and mislead Yusuf (علیہ السلام).

53. 2 Here, she explained her mistake or its reason, that man's own self is such that it incites and urges towards evil.

53. 3 That is, only the one is saved from the mischief of the self upon whom Allah's mercy descends, just as Allah saved Prophet Yusuf (علیہ السلام).
