فَلَمَّا رَءَا قَمِيصَهُۥ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ قَالَ إِنَّهُۥ مِن كَيْدِكُنَّ ۖ إِنَّ كَيْدَكُنَّ عَظِيمٌ ﴿28﴾
So when he (her husband) saw his [(Yûsuf’s (Joseph)] shirt torn at the back, he (her husband) said: "Surely, it is a plot of you women! Certainly mighty is your plot!
فَلَمَّا falammā So when
رَءَا raā he saw
قَمِيصَهُۥ qamīṣahu his shirt
قُدَّ qudda torn
مِن min from
دُبُرٍۢ duburin (the) back
قَالَ qāla he said
إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, it
مِن min (is) of
كَيْدِكُنَّ ۖ kaydikunna your plot
إِنَّ inna Indeed
كَيْدَكُنَّ kaydakunna your plot
عَظِيمٌۭ ʿaẓīmun (is) great

28. 1. This is the statement of the Aziz of Egypt, which he made regarding women after witnessing his wife's disgraceful act. This is neither the word of Allah nor is it true regarding every woman. Therefore, to apply it to every woman and, on this basis, to portray women as embodiments of deceit and trickery is by no means the intention of the Quran. As some people give this impression about women from this sentence.
