Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
6. 1. There are two types of those who cast whispers: as for the devils from among the jinn, Allah Almighty has given them the power to mislead humans. In addition, every human has a devil as his companion who keeps misleading him. Thus, it is mentioned in the hadith that when the Prophet ﷺ said this, the noble companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Is he with you as well?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, he is with me too, but Allah has helped me against him, and he has become obedient to me; he does not command me except for good." (Sahih Muslim) Similarly, it is mentioned in the hadith that the Prophet ﷺ was observing i'tikaf when his purified wife, Lady Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), came to meet him. It was nighttime, and the Prophet ﷺ went with her to see her off. On the way, two Ansari companions passed by, so the Prophet ﷺ called them and said, "This is my wife, Safiyyah bint Huyayy." They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, how could we think ill of you?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "That is correct, but Satan flows through the veins of man like fear. I feared that he might cast some doubt into your hearts." (Sahih Bukhari) The other devils are from among humans, who, in the guise of well-wishers and sympathizers, encourage people towards misguidance. Some say that the devil misleads both types, meaning the devil misleads both humans and jinn. The mention of only humans is for predominance, otherwise, jinn are also among those misled by the whispers of the devil. And some say that the word "رجال" (men) has also been used in the Quran for jinn (وَّاَنَّهٗكَانَرِجَالٌمِّنَالْاِنْسِيَعُوْذُوْنَبِرِجَالٍمِّنَالْجِنِّفَزَادُوْهُمْرَهَقًا ۙ) 72. Al-Jinn:6), therefore, they are also included in the meaning of "nas" (mankind).
