Surah Hud (11) — Ayah 88

Hud · Meccan · Juz 12 · Page 231

He said: "O my people! Tell me if I have a clear evidence from my Lord and He has given me a good sustenance from Himself (shall I corrupt it by mixing it with the unlawfully earned money). I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you. I only desire reform to the best of my power. And my guidance cannot come except from Allâh, in Him I trust and unto Him I repent.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

88. 1 The second meaning of "good provision" is also stated to be prophethood. (Ibn Kathir)
88. 2 That is, whatever I forbid you from, it is not possible that I myself would do it in opposition to you.
88. 3 Whatever I command you to do or forbid you from, the purpose behind it, to the best of my ability, is only your reformation.
88. 4 That is, the intention I have to reach the truth is only possible with success from Allah, so in all matters my trust is in Him alone and to Him alone I turn.
