سُوْرَةُ هُوْدٍ
Surah Hud (11) — Ayah 42
وَهِىَ تَجْرِى بِهِمْ فِى مَوْجٍ كَٱلْجِبَالِ وَنَادَىٰ نُوحٌ ٱبْنَهُۥ وَكَانَ فِى مَعْزِلٍ يَـٰبُنَىَّ ٱرْكَب مَّعَنَا وَلَا تَكُن مَّعَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿42﴾

So it (the ship) sailed with them amidst waves like mountains, and Nûh (Noah) called out to his son, who had separated himself (apart): "O my son! Embark with us and be not with the disbelievers."

42. 1. That is, when there was water on the earth, even the mountains were submerged in water, this ark, carrying Hazrat Nuh (AS) and his companions in its bosom, was moving like a mountain by Allah's command and under His protection. Otherwise, what significance would a boat have in such stormy waters? That is why, in another place, Allah Almighty has mentioned it as a favor. (اِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا الْمَاۗءُ حَمَلْنٰكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ 11 ۙ لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَّتَعِيَهَآ اُذُنٌ وَّاعِيَةٌ 12) 59. Al-Haqqah: 12-11) When the water overflowed, We carried you in the ark so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. (Wahamalnahu 'ala dhati alwahin wa dusur, tajri bi a'yunina jaza'an liman kana kufir) (Al-Qamar) And We carried him on a vessel of planks and nails, sailing under Our eyes, as a recompense for him who was denied.
42. 2. This was the fourth son of Hazrat Nuh (AS), whose title was Canaan and name was 'Yam'. Hazrat Nuh (AS) invited him to become a Muslim and not to be among those who would be drowned by remaining with the disbelievers.
