وَأُوحِىَ إِلَىٰ نُوحٍ أَنَّهُۥ لَن يُؤْمِنَ مِن قَوْمِكَ إِلَّا مَن قَدْ ءَامَنَ فَلَا تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ ﴿36﴾
And it was revealed to Nûh (Noah): "None of your people will believe except those who have believed already. So be not sad because of what they used to do.
وَأُوحِىَ waūḥiya And it was revealed
إِلَىٰ ilā to
نُوحٍ nūḥin Nuh
أَنَّهُۥ annahu That
لَن lan will never
يُؤْمِنَ yu'mina believe
مِن min from
قَوْمِكَ qawmika your people
إِلَّا illā except
مَن man (those) who
قَدْ qad have already
ءَامَنَ āmana believed
فَلَا falā So (do) not
تَبْتَئِسْ tabta-is (be) distressed
بِمَا bimā by what
كَانُوا۟ kānū they have been
يَفْعَلُونَ yafʿalūna doing

36. 1. This was said when the people of Nuh ؑ demanded punishment and Nuh ؑ prayed in the court of Allah, "O Lord! Do not leave a single disbeliever dwelling on the earth." Allah said, "Now no one else will believe, so do not grieve over them."
