قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُهُۥ بَيَـٰتًا أَوْ نَهَارًا مَّاذَا يَسْتَعْجِلُ مِنْهُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ ﴿50﴾
Say: "Tell me, if His torment should come to you by night or by day, which portion thereof would the Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals) hasten on ?"
قُلْ qul Say
أَرَءَيْتُمْ ara-aytum Do you see
إِنْ in if
أَتَىٰكُمْ atākum comes to you
عَذَابُهُۥ ʿadhābuhu His punishment
بَيَـٰتًا bayātan (by) night
أَوْ aw or
نَهَارًۭا nahāran (by) day
مَّاذَا mādhā what (portion)
يَسْتَعْجِلُ yastaʿjilu of it would (wish to) hasten
مِنْهُ min'hu of it would (wish to) hasten
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ l-muj'rimūna the criminals

50. 1. That is, punishment is indeed a highly detestable thing from which hearts feel aversion and natures deny it, then what goodness do they see in it and why do they seek it hastily?
