And those who have earned evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is the like thereof, and humiliating disgrace will cover them (their faces). No defender will they have from Allâh. Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

27. 1 In the previous verse, the people of Paradise were mentioned, and it was stated that they will be rewarded many times over for their righteous deeds, and then further blessed with the vision of Allah. In this verse, it is being stated that the recompense for evil will be only the like of it. By سَيِّئَاتِ is meant disbelief, polytheism, and other sins.

27. 2 Just as Allah will be the one to save the believers, in the same way, on that Day He will bestow His special grace upon them. In addition, Allah will also grant permission to His chosen servants to intercede, and He will accept their intercession.

27. 3 This is an exaggeration, that their faces will be so intensely blackened. In contrast, the faces of the believers will be fresh and radiant, just as is mentioned in Surah Al Imran, verse 16, and Surah Abasa 38–41, and in Surah Qiyamah.
