And they worship besides Allâh things that harm them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allâh." Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

18. 1. That is, not by abandoning the worship of Allah, but by exceeding the bounds in Allah's worship. Because the polytheists used to worship Allah, and also others besides Allah.

18. 2. Whereas the status of a deity is such that he is capable of rewarding his obedient servants and punishing his disobedient ones.

18. 3. That is, through their intercession, Allah fulfills our needs, rectifies our misfortunes, or undoes the harm caused by our enemies. That is, even the polytheists did not consider those whom they worshipped besides Allah to be independently beneficial or harmful, but rather regarded them as intermediaries and means between themselves and Allah.

18. 4. That is, Allah does not know that He has any partner, or that there will be any intercessors in His presence; as if these polytheists are informing Allah that You are unaware, but we are telling You that You have partners and intercessors who will intercede for their devotees.

18. 5. Allah Almighty has said that the statements of the polytheists are baseless. Allah Almighty is pure and exalted above all these things.
