Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)!

(Ayah 14) ➊ {فَكَذَّبُوْهُفَعَقَرُوْهَا:} Although one man hamstrung and killed her, since the whole nation was with him and in fact he did this at their urging, therefore all of them were declared guilty and it was said, "They hamstrung her." ➋ {فَدَمْدَمَعَلَيْهِمْرَبُّهُمْبِذَنْۢبِهِمْفَسَوّٰىهَا …:} It is in Qamoos: {’’دَمَّمَالْقَوْمَكَدَمْدَمَهُمْوَدَمْدَمَعَلَيْهِمْ،طَحَنَهُمْفَأَهْلَكَهُمْ۔‘‘ ’’دَمْدَمَعَلَيْهِمْ‘‘} He crushed and destroyed them. Three days after killing the she-camel, a severe supernatural cry came upon them as punishment, and they were annihilated as if they had never existed there; only Salih (peace be upon him) and the believers were saved. This incident has already been mentioned in detail in Surah Hud (62 to 68), Al-A'raf (73 to 79), and Ash-Shu'ara (141 to 159).

14. 1. This act was committed by a person named Qidar, but since the nation was also involved with him in this mischief, therefore all of them were considered equally guilty, and the denial and the hamstringing of the she-camel were attributed to the whole nation. From this, the principle is derived that if, instead of denouncing an evil, a nation approves of it, then in the sight of Allah, the entire nation is considered to have committed that evil and is regarded as equally complicit in that crime or wrongdoing.
14. 2. They were destroyed and a severe punishment was sent down upon them.
14. 3. That is, all were made equal in this punishment, none was spared; young and old, all were annihilated, or the earth was leveled over them, meaning all were buried beneath the ground.

14. But they denied the Messenger [13] and hamstrung the she-camel [14], so their Lord brought down upon them a calamity for their sin and leveled them to the ground.
[13] That is, these people did not give any importance to the warning of Sayyiduna Salih ؑ and considered it a lie. [14] The one who killed the she-camel was only one person, Qidar bin Salif, who himself was a fornicator and a lover of a fornicating woman. It was at the instigation of this adulterous woman that he undertook this task. Then, after secretly consulting with the people of the whole nation, he made them his accomplices. That is why the act of killing the she-camel is attributed to the entire nation, and the punishment did not come only upon the killer of the she-camel, but upon the whole nation.
