But the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and those who believed with him (in Islâmic Monotheism) strove hard and fought with their wealth and their lives (in Allâh’s Cause). Such are they for whom are the good things, and it is they who will be successful.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah88) {لٰكِنِ الرَّسُوْلُ وَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَهٗ … :} But the condition of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the believers is not like that of the hypocrites; among them there is neither cowardice like theirs, nor avoidance of jihad, nor stinginess in sacrificing wealth and life, nor disbelief in Allah and His Messenger, nor disobedience. Rather, they strive in jihad with their wealth and lives, that is, they make their utmost effort to raise the word of Allah, and they obey in every situation. For them alone are all the good things, that is, the victories and spoils of the world and the highest ranks in the Hereafter. See Surah Al-Hujurat (15) and As-Saff (10 to 12). Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There will not be a single person who reaches Paradise who would wish to return to the world, even if he were given everything in the world, except the martyr; he will wish to return to the world and be killed ten times, because of the honor and dignity he sees." 88. But the Messenger and those who believed with him strove with their wealth and their lives. All good [102] is for such people, and it is they who will be successful.

[102] Here, in between, the sincere efforts of the true Muslims regarding jihad and their reward are mentioned in direct contrast to the character of the hypocrites, as is often the practice in the Quran. After this, the mention of those seeking exemption and the hypocrites is resumed.
