They (the disbelievers, the Jews and the Christians) want to extinguish Allâh’s Light (with which Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم has been sent - Islâmic Monotheism) with their mouths, but Allâh will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the Kâfirûn (disbelievers) hate (it).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah32){يُرِيْدُوْنَ اَنْ يُّطْفِـُٔوْا نُوْرَ اللّٰهِ بِاَفْوَاهِهِمْ … :} By Allah's light is meant Islam and its proofs of truth, which are extremely radiant. In this verse, the third vile trait of the Jews and Christians is mentioned: that they constantly strive by every means to prevent the spread of Islam and to extinguish it. Here, all their efforts to hinder and extinguish Islam are presented metaphorically: on one side, there is a very great light, such as the sun or the moon, and on the other side, the weakest attempt to extinguish it—blowing at it with one's mouth. The outcome of such blowing is clear to everyone. In the same way, on one side is Allah's light, that is, Islam, which Allah has determined to perfect in every circumstance; on the other side are the contemptible and futile efforts of the Jews and Christians, whose contemptible and futile efforts to hinder and extinguish it are like trying to extinguish not just the sun, but the greatest light in the universe, with the most insignificant thing—blowing from the mouth. Can they possibly prevent the completion of the light of Islam by this?

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

32. 1. That is, the guidance and the true religion with which Allah sent the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the Jews, Christians, and polytheists wish to extinguish it with their arguments and fabrications. Their example is just like someone trying to extinguish the rays of the sun or the light of the moon with their breaths. So! Just as this is impossible, in the same way, it is impossible to extinguish the true religion that Allah has sent with His Messenger. It will prevail over all religions, as Allah has stated in the next sentence. The literal meaning of "kafir" is "one who conceals." That is why the night is also called "kafir," because it conceals all things in its darkness. The farmer is also called "kafir" because he hides the grains in the earth. Thus, the disbelievers also wish to conceal the light of Allah, or they hide disbelief, hypocrisy, and hatred and enmity against Muslims and Islam in their hearts. That is why they are called "kafir."

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

They wish to extinguish Allah’s light [32] with their mouths, but Allah will not allow except that His light should be perfected, even though the disbelievers may dislike it.

The Meaning of Allah’s Light:

By Allah’s light is meant the sun of guidance or the illumination of the Book and Sunnah. Just as the light of the sun cannot be extinguished or dimmed by blowing, in the same way, the antagonistic activities of these disbelievers, their baseless objections, their attempts to create doubts in the signs of Allah, or their mocking of Allah’s verses, His Messenger, and the Muslims, cannot hinder the path of Islam. This is what Allah wants to fulfill in every circumstance, and it is certain that the disbelievers cannot tolerate the progress of Islam at all. At every step of its advancement, they are consumed with jealousy and rage.
