The Throwing of a Handful of Sand by the Prophet ﷺ and the Forms of Divine Help:

There were several forms of help, two of which are mentioned in this verse: that is, causing drowsiness to bring tranquility to the Muslims, and the descent of angels, who did not fight in this battle but were sent only to overawe the disbelievers. The third form is mentioned in the following hadith. With these very forms of help, Allah had also aided the Muslims at Badr and Uhud. Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa‘ ؓ says that when the enemies surrounded the Prophet ﷺ, he dismounted from his mule, picked up a handful of dust from the ground, and threw it towards the disbelievers. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "May the faces of the enemies be disfigured." After that, there was not a single disbeliever left whose eyes were not filled with dust because of that handful.
