And by the night when it departs.

(Ayah 4){ وَ الَّيْلِ اِذَا يَسْرِ : ’’ يَسْرِ ‘‘} The original is {’’يَسْرِيْ‘‘}, for the correspondence of the verse endings, the ya was omitted and the kasrah was kept on the ra. {’’سَرٰي يَسْرِيْ سُرًي‘‘} (ض) means to travel at night. In Surah Al-Muddathir it is said: « وَ الَّيْلِ اِذْ اَدْبَرَ» [ المدثر : ۳۳ ] "And by the night when it departs." That is, the departing night is a great proof of the establishment of the Resurrection.

[4] The word ﴿يَسَرْ﴾ ﴿سرٰي﴾ ﴿يسري﴾ is specific for traveling at night; to travel at night, and "sariyah" refers to a small group traveling at night. "Asra" means to make someone else travel, take along, or cause to journey at night [17: 1]. In this regard, one meaning would be the oath by the night when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ undertook the journey of Mi'raj, and the second meaning is the oath by the night when it itself was about to depart or leave. In this sense, in these verses, the same time is expressed in two different ways; that is, the time of night’s departure is the same as when dawn breaks or the light of morning appears.
