وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا ﴿20﴾
And you love wealth with much love.

20. And you love wealth with immense [13] love.

[13] That is, the standard by which you measure honor and disgrace is entirely wrong. The real criterion for honor and disgrace is not money and wealth, but rather high morals and noble character. But your condition is such that you have made wealth and money your deity and are obsessed with it. Far from honoring orphans and widows, if they possess anything, you try to snatch it away as well. Your love for money and miserliness is such that not only do you not give anything to fulfill the needs of the poor or feed them, but you do not even encourage others to do so. You deprive widows, daughters, and children of inheritance from the deceased, and whoever has the power, seizes the entire inheritance. All you care about is money, and you are ever ready to use any lawful or unlawful means to acquire it. If these are your ways, why should you have any honor in the sight of Allah?
