2. And what will make you know what the night visitor [1] is?

[1] ﴿الطارق﴾ means "path" and ﴿طريق﴾ means "one who walks on the path." However, in common usage, ﴿طارق﴾ especially refers to a traveler who comes only at night. The star is called ﴿طارق﴾ because it appears only at night. In the next verse, Allah Almighty Himself has clarified that here ﴿طارق﴾ does not refer to ordinary stars, but rather to a shooting star.
