12. 1. That is, when the earth splits, a plant emerges from it; when the earth splits, a spring gushes forth from it, and in the same way, a day will come when the earth will split, and all the dead will come out alive. That is why the earth is called the one that splits and cracks.

12. And by the earth which cracks open [10].

[10] ﴿ذَات الصَّدْعِ﴾ The meaning of ﴿صدع﴾ is for something to split in such a way that no piece is separated, and according to Imam Raghib, a crack or hole appears in solid objects like iron, glass, earth, etc. The earth is called ﴿ذات الصدع﴾ because it splits open to give a way out for the soft and delicate shoots of plants and trees. In addition, springs of water also gush forth from it. Although the earth is a solid and hard thing, and water is fluid and much softer and weaker compared to the earth, even then, the earth splits open to give water a way out.
