Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 7 to 9) {فَاَمَّا مَنْ اُوْتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ بِيَمِيْنِهٖ …:} The meaning of an easy reckoning is that there will not be a thorough and detailed accounting; only the book of deeds will be presented and mistakes will also be brought forth, then Allah Almighty will forgive by His mercy. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! May Allah make me your ransom! Does Allah not say that whoever is given his book in his right hand will have an easy reckoning?" He said: "That is only the presentation (in which only his deeds) will be presented, and whoever is scrutinized in the reckoning will be destroyed."

For those servants upon whom Allah's favor will be, one form of their easy reckoning will be as Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: [ يَدْنُوْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهٖ حَتّٰی يَضَعَ كَنَفَهُ عَلَيْهِ فَيَقُوْلُ عَمِلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَيَقُوْلُ نَعَمْ، وَ يَقُوْلُ عَمِلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَيَقُوْلُ نَعَمْ، فَيُقَرِّرُهُ ثُمَّ يَقُوْلُ إِنِّيْ سَتَرْتُ عَلَيْكَ فِي الدُّنْيَا، فَأَنَا أَغْفِرُهَا لَكَ الْيَوْمَ ] [ بخاري، الأدب، باب ستر المؤمن علٰی نفسہ : ۶۰۷۰ ] "One of you (a servant) will be brought close to his Lord, until He will place His covering over him (so that no one else is aware), then He will say: 'Did you do such and such?' He will say: 'Yes!' And He will say: 'Did you do such and such (also)?' He will say: 'Yes!' Thus Allah will make him confess, then He will say: 'I concealed it for you in the world, so today I forgive you those sins.'"

Another form of easy reckoning will be that Allah Almighty will grant whomever He wills a great reward for a small good deed, as Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the summary of which is that the sins of a man from your Ummah will be spread as far as the eye can see in ninety-nine (99) registers, but they will be outweighed by a single slip of paper on which {’’أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗ ‘‘} will be written. [ دیکھیے ترمذي، الإیمان، باب ما جاء فیمن یموت وھو یشہد أن لا إلٰہ إلا اللّٰہ : ۲۶۳۹، و صححہ الألباني ] In short, Allah Almighty will make the reckoning easy in whatever way He wills, but the condition is that a person should be free from all kinds of outward and inward shirk, that is, ostentation. Then, even if a sinner dies without repentance, there is hope for mercy and ease in reckoning from Allah. Allah Himself has said: « اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ اَنْ يُّشْرَكَ بِهٖ وَ يَغْفِرُ مَا دُوْنَ ذٰلِكَ لِمَنْ يَّشَآءُ » [ النساء : ۴۸ ] "Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills." There is no forgiveness for the polytheist; forgiveness for others is subject to Allah's will. Therefore, one should neither be fearless of His wrath nor despair of His mercy.
