وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ ﴿32﴾
And when they saw them, they said: "Verily these have indeed gone astray!"

32. And when they saw the believers, they used to say, "Indeed, these are the misguided ones." [18]

[18] In these four verses, Allah Almighty has mentioned four actions of the disbelievers of Makkah. All of these are related to mocking the Muslims and making sarcastic remarks about them. They used to call the Muslims misguided in the sense that Muslims would exhaust themselves in asceticism and devotion, and would prefer the pleasures of the Hereafter over worldly pleasures. The disbelievers would say: Is this not clear misguidance that they have left all their homes and comforts and have followed one man, abandoning their ancestral religion? Merely on the notion that they will receive Paradise in the Hereafter. What kind of corrupt idea has possessed these fools that they have left the certain pleasures of this world and are chasing after the imagined pleasures of the Hereafter? These were the things they would repeat again and again, taking pleasure in them themselves, and would point towards the Muslims and mock them.
