Darkness will cover them.

41. 1. That is, due to humiliation and punishment, their faces will be covered with dust, stained with gloom, and darkened.

41. (And) darkness will cover [22] them.

[22] On the Day of Resurrection, people will be divided into two groups, and their signs will be evident from their faces. The faces of those obedient to Allah will be radiant, cheerful, and smiling. Waves of happiness will surge in their hearts, while some people’s faces will be stricken with fear. Their color will be pale, their faces distorted and lifeless, and these will be the disobedient and immoral people. Thus, even before people are divided into groups, it will be recognizable to which group each person belongs.
