يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ﴿34﴾
That Day shall a man flee from his brother,
يَوْمَ yawma (The) Day

أَخِيهِ akhīhi his brother

(Ayah 34 to 36) ➊ { يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ اَخِيْهِ … :} Allah Almighty has mentioned, on the Day of Resurrection, a person fleeing from those people whom he loves, and in the order, the degrees of love have been considered. First, He mentioned those with whom there is less love, and gradually, at the end, He mentioned sons, with whom there is more love than all the previously mentioned people. (Al-Tasheel) When he will flee from his loved ones, then what about others?
➋ In Surah Al-Ma'arij, on the contrary, it starts with sons and states that the criminal will ardently wish that, to save himself from the punishment of that Day, he could offer his sons, his wife, his brother, his protecting tribe, and even all the people of the world as ransom to save himself. ➌ The reason for fleeing is the panic and confusion caused by the occurrence of the Resurrection, to the extent that, except for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the rest of the Prophets (peace be upon them) will also say {’’نَفْسِيْ نَفْسِيْ‘‘}. Besides this, there will be the fear that a relative might claim some right, might present some testimony against him, or that he might have to bear someone else's sins in exchange for his own injustices, etc.
