[9] ﴿سَفَرَةٍ﴾ is the plural of ﴿سافِر﴾, and ﴿السِّفر﴾ refers to that book which unveils realities. ﴿اسفار﴾ means the commentaries and explanations of the Torah, and ﴿سافر﴾ is the person who writes or composes such a text. This term applies to both angels and humans who write divinely inspired texts, as well as to the angels who record deeds. The meaning here is that the ones who write the Quran are extremely honored and noble angels. Revelation descends accordingly, and here too, those who write and compile it in pages are the greatest, most pure, righteous, and angelic-natured people of the world, who have kept this Quran free from any deficiency or excess, alteration, or distortion. Thus, a magnificent book like the Quran is far above being presented before arrogant disbelievers with the wish that they grant it the honor of acceptance, for the Quran is not in need of them; rather, they are in need of it.
