Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 49) ➊ { اِذْ يَقُوْلُ الْمُنٰفِقُوْنَ وَ الَّذِيْنَ فِيْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ مَّرَضٌ:} “Those in whose hearts is a disease” refers to the new Muslims, in whose hearts doubt had not yet been completely replaced by full certainty. It can also refer to the Jews and the opposing polytheists.

{ غَرَّ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ دِيْنُهُمْ:} That is, their religious zeal has made them completely insane; they see that their numbers are few, they have no resources, to the extent that they do not even have a second horse to fight with except for one, yet they have set out to confront the armed and grand army of the Quraysh. Only madmen would invite their own death like this. The practice of calling the messengers and their companions mad and insane has continued from the first messenger to our Messenger, because the disbelievers simply cannot understand that which is born in the heart from faith. See Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:52, 53). Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) says: “Seeing the bravery of the Muslims, the hypocrites began to taunt; Allah said, this is not arrogance (being deceived), it is trust (tawakkul).” (Mawdhih)

{ وَ مَنْ يَّتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّٰهِ …:} And whoever’s trust is upon the One who is dominant over all and possesses perfect wisdom, his heart will certainly be strong; that is why the Muslims are fully prepared and determined in every way to confront the grand army of the disbelievers.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

49. 1. By this are meant those Muslims who had newly embraced Islam and had doubts about the success of the Muslims, or it may refer to the polytheists, and it is also possible that the Jews residing in Medina are meant.

49. 2. That is, look at their numbers and also their state of equipment, which is apparent. Yet they have set out to confront the polytheists of Mecca, who are far greater in number than them and are also well-equipped with all kinds of weapons and resources. It seems that their religion has deceived and deluded them. And even this obvious matter is beyond their understanding.

49. 3. Allah Almighty said: How can these people of the world estimate the determination and steadfastness of the people of faith, whose trust is in Allah, Who is dominant, meaning He does not abandon those who rely on Him, and He is also Wise; in every act of His there is perfect wisdom, which is beyond the comprehension of human intellects.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

49. When the hypocrites and those with disease in their hearts [54] were saying, "These Muslims have been deceived by their religion." But whoever puts his trust in Allah, then surely Allah is Mighty and Wise.

The Taunt of the Jews and Hypocrites Against the Mujahideen of Badr:

The hypocrites and Jews of Madinah used to say that these Muslims have become mad in their religious zeal. How could this small, ill-equipped group be ready to confront a mighty power like the Quraysh—if not out of madness? They wondered what kind of delusion these people were under. As for themselves, they saw the Muslims’ destruction as certain in this battle, and, seeing everything clearly, believed the Muslims were inviting their own deaths. Allah Almighty said: It is not the Muslims who are mad, but rather these people themselves, who do not understand that whoever puts his trust in Allah, Allah surely helps him. He is dominant in giving help and knows all the ways to do so.
