3. 1. That is, there is an inquiry regarding the great news about which there is disagreement among them. By this great news, some have meant the Noble Quran; the disbelievers used to say different things about it—some called it magic, some soothsaying, some poetry, and some tales of the ancients. According to some, it refers to the establishment of the Day of Judgment and resurrection. There was some disagreement among them about this—some completely denied it, some merely expressed doubt. Some said that both believers and disbelievers were among those who asked; the believers' question was for increased certainty or insight, and the disbelievers' was for denial and mockery.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

3. About which they differ among themselves [2].

[2] In the time of the Prophet, there were various kinds of differences regarding the belief in the Hereafter. Some people were materialists who did not believe in the existence of Allah at all. For them, the belief in the Hereafter was out of the question. The polytheists of Makkah believed in the existence of Allah but denied the Hereafter. The Christians believed in the Hereafter, but the majority of them held the view that reward and punishment in the Hereafter would be inflicted only upon the soul. The body, which had decayed, would not be resurrected and raised again. Some people adhered to the doctrine of agnosticism, meaning they were engulfed in doubt and suspicion. In their view, both possibilities existed: it was possible that the Day of Resurrection would occur, and it was also possible that with death, the matter of man would be finished, and the concept of Resurrection was merely a speculative and imaginary idea. Despite all these differences, these people were, in practice and in consequence, deniers of the Hereafter, and Allah Almighty has declared them disbelievers because of their denial of the Hereafter.
