26. 1. That is, this punishment is according to their deeds which they used to do in the world.

26. This is a fitting recompense (for their deeds) [18].

[18] That is, they will be given only as much punishment as their evil deeds warranted. They will not be punished more than that. And the basis of their crimes was that they never believed that they would be held accountable. On this basis, they denied the verses and spent their entire lives freely, like an unbridled camel.
