Types and Characteristics of Winds:

On the surface of the earth, Allah Almighty has created a layer of air, which is even more essential for every land-dwelling creature than water. A human can survive for a day or so without water, but cannot live even two or four minutes without air. Just as there are many types of water—some sweet, some brackish, some salty, some turbid, some clear and transparent, some light, some heavy, and some foul-smelling and putrid—similarly, there are many types of winds. The breeze of Naseem and Saba has a very pleasant effect on human nature, whereas the winds of Sarsar and Samoom are extremely harmful. Some winds blow from east to west, and some from west to east. Then, some winds move gently and slowly. Sometimes, there is a sudden stillness, the wind stops blowing, and a person begins to feel suffocated. Sometimes, these winds take the form of storms and gales, destroying trees and houses. Some winds carry fragrance and are perfumed, while others are foul-smelling and cause illness. In short, the world of winds is a separate realm, and despite the presence of these various types, there is a system and order among them. These very winds play an effective role in heat, cold, and the change of seasons. Some winds gather and join clouds together, while others suddenly tear apart the joined clouds. In these verses, Allah Almighty has sworn by four types of winds and has drawn human attention to His perfect power.
