Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 2) ➊ { اِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ نُّطْفَةٍ اَمْشَاجٍ:} That is, the creation of man did not occur from only the sperm of the man or only the woman, but from the mingled sperm of both, because conception takes place only when both combine. Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ إِنَّ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيْظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيْقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا عَلَا أَوْ سَبَقَ يَكُوْنُ مِنْهُ الشَّبَهُ ] [ مسلم، الحیض، باب وجوب الغسل علی المرأۃ… : ۳۱۱] "The man's fluid is thick and white, and the woman's fluid is thin and yellow; whichever of them prevails or comes first, the child resembles that one."
{ نَبْتَلِيْهِ:} We test him, that is, the purpose of creating man is to test whether he does good deeds or bad, as He said: « لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ اَيُّكُمْ اَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا» [ الملک : ۲] "(Allah Almighty created death and life) so that He may test you as to which of you is best in deeds."
{فَجَعَلْنٰهُ سَمِيْعًا بَصِيْرًا:} "We made him hearing and seeing"—although animals also hear and see, they are not called "hearing and seeing," because they are deprived of the blessing of intellect. Allah Almighty has given man such powers of hearing and seeing by which he can distinguish between good and bad and can think far ahead. It is as if, compared to him, other animals are deaf and blind.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

2. 1. Mixed meaning, the mingling of the fluids of man and woman, then their passing through various stages. The purpose of creation is the testing of man.
2. 2. That is, He granted him the faculties of hearing and sight, so that he could see and hear everything, and after that, he could choose either the path of obedience or denial.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

2. We created man from a mixed drop of sperm (from male and female), which We kept turning [2], then We made him hearing and seeing [3].

[2] That is, the father's sperm was separate, the mother's was separate, and from the union of these two sperms, conception took place in the mother's womb. Then We did not let this mixed sperm remain in the same state. Otherwise, it would have decayed there. Rather, We kept turning it and, by passing this sperm through various stages in the mother's womb, made it into a living, breathing human being.

What Superiority Does Man Have Over Other Living Beings?

All living creatures besides man—almost all of them—also hear and see. But they are not "Sami'" (hearing) and "Basir" (seeing) . Only man is "Sami'" and "Basir." And these very things are the greatest means for man to acquire knowledge. Man observes things and listens to certain sounds, then reflects upon them, makes analogies and deductions, and then draws conclusions from them. Whereas other living beings, despite seeing and hearing, cannot do any of these things.
